History of TM

Settelecom JSC (AltegroSky trademark) is a flagship Russian VSAT satellite communications operator with networks based on the Yamal, Express-AM1, and Express-AM3 satellites that provide full coverage of Russian and CIS territory. Launched in 2003, the AltegroSky project started commercial operation in November 2004, and by May 2010 the AltegroSky network served over 5,200 subscriber terminals.

Activity directions

Settelecom services include high-speed Internet access, corporate telephony, deployment of corporate networks for data transmission, telemetry, video conferencing, multicasting and business TV; telecommunications based on mobile VSAT terminals (AltegroMobile); landline backup, dedicated satellite (backbone) channels, satellite teleport resources for lease.

Technologies and equipment

The AltegroSky network relies on the Russian geostationary orbiting satellites Yamal-200 (90° East), Express-AM1 (40° East), and Express-AM3 (140° East), which provide high-quality service for 0.98 to 1.8 meter satellite dishes. Reliance on three satellites ensures 100-percent coverage of Russian territory and top service reliability through mutual backup of network fragments served by different satellites. Combined network throughput exceeds 100 Mbps. The network is based on HughesNet and НХ hardware by Hughes Network Systems, LLC (Hughes) - a leading international vendor of technology solutions for broadband satellite systems.
Settelecom owns three teleports: the AltegroSky teleport at the Medvezhyi Ozera Space Communications Center of the Special Research Bureau of Moscow Power Engineering Institute; the AltegroSky-Dubna teleport at the Space Communications Center of the Russian Satellite Communications Company; and the AltegroSky-Khabarovsk teleport; as well as a data transmission node at the M9 Internet Exchange Point.
In February 2009, Settelecom became the first Russian operator to have completed network migration from DVB-S to DVB-S2 standard on the three satellites.
In June 2008, Settelecom sponsored Russia's first VSAT Speed Installation Championship.
In 2007, Settelecom was the first satellite operator in Russia and CIS to have adopted the HX satellite platform - a new solution by Hughes Network System for major corporate networks and heavy-traffic GSM operator networks.
Since 2006, Settelecom is the Universal Service Operator in the Samara Region and the Stavropol Krai. As of December 2008, the company installed over 600 collective Internet access points in these regions.
In 2006, Settelecom became the first Russian VSAT operator to have over 1,000 stations in its network.
The company operates research and training facilities, 24/7 customer support service, and a service network of 5 regional service centers and over 500 certified centers of partner companies in Russia, which enable speedy installation of satellite terminals and quality customer service.
Settelecom deploys and leases out mobile telecom terminals (AltegroMobile) based on a variety of mobile platforms compatible with both HughesNet and such broadband satellite access systems as iDirect, Viasat, Gilat, and EMS. AltegroMobile is intended for fast deployment of mobile communication at emergency sites, for rescue and recovery operations, for inspections and monitoring of oil, gas and power facilities, video conferencing sessions, as well as for telemedicine applications.
A broad variety of customers rely on Settelecom for communication services: from major Russian corporations (Russian Ministry for Taxes and Duties, State Reserve, Sberbank, Vneshtorgbank, Russian Railways, OAO RAO "UES of Russia", Gazprom, Transneft, TNK-BP, Alrosa, Russian Academy of Sciences, RTComm.RU) to small and medium businesses and private customers.

Settelecom is the official Russian distributor of C-Com (Canada) - a supplier of automated antenna posts for VSAT. All Settelecom operations are fully licensed.
